Restart Frozen FaceTime/iMessage Video/Screen Sharing
Published 2019-4-13First problem:
• Invite to Share My Screen • Ask to Screen Share
Second problem:
There is no connected camera
These are two problems that I face almost on a daily basis. You can fix it the old fashioned way - by rebooting - or you can dig out Terminal.app and get things set right again in a jiffy (which, although not a standard unit of measure, is definitely faster and less cumbersome than rebooting).
These problems seem to pop up when switching between applications (Google Hangouts, Zoom, Skype, FaceTime / Messages) or when doing something between multiple devices (iPhone and Macbook) or people.
Of course, I don't expect this article to get any traffic, but it's better to post it again than for me to have to Google it again for 10 minutes every time I have the problem.
ScreenShare is Frozen
If Messages / FaceTime / iMessage ScreenShare is frozen, most likely SSInvitationAgent
is to blame. It's an easy fix though:
sudo killall SSInvitationAgent
No Data from Camera or Cannot be Found
I've had mixed results with this. It doesn't seem to fix the issue for my Thunderbolt display, but it at least gets the built-in FaceTime camera active and receiving data again when it's gone black:
sudo killall VDCAssistant
